Global Women’s Leadership Project launches student-hosted podcast on feminism

December 10, 2018

Penn Law Global Women’s Leadership Project (GLWP) has launched a student-hosted podcast, the “Feminism Podcast Series.”

Coinciding with Human Rights Day and the anniversary of the adoption of Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the UN General Assembly, the Penn Law Global Women’s Leadership Project (GLWP) has launched a student-hosted podcast, the “Feminism Podcast Series.” Episodes will feature Penn Law students offering their perspectives on what feminism means to them.

“December 10 was Human Rights Day and this year we marked the 70th anniversary of the UDHR — the founding principles of the international human rights framework,” said Rangita de Silva de Alwis, Penn Law’s Associate Dean for International Programs, Founding Director of the GLWP and Senior Advisor to the head of UN Women. “Today also marks the end of the 16 days of activism on violence against women around the world. It is significant that the Chair of the drafting committee of the UDHR was Eleanor Roosevelt, the only woman on the Committee and the founding mother of the declaration. These student conversations build on Roosevelt’s legacy and impact the global conversations on feminism. ”

Reflecting on her involvement, Roosevelt once said, “I became more of a feminist than I ever imagined.”

Penn Law’s International Affairs has released the first episode of the student podcast, “What Feminism Means to Me,” and will release four more episodes during the spring semester of 2019. Listen to the first episode here:
